Hi Im trying to learn to short a skirt mesh. I am using Mister S Tutorial. And I'm a bit stuck. I select B and outline the part of the mesh that I want to delete. (Is that the bounding box shown below or am I mistaken?) The outline vanishes when I press X. I select delete by Vertices. But the entire skirt is deleted. I don't know what Im doing wrong. i63.tinypic.com/2eelr41.png

hi! You have all the mesh selected when deleting. If the mesh is lined orange, it means that is selected. Press A to deselect all. Then select with the square.

hi again guys I am up to the point where Im trying to close of the bottom of the mesh But try as I might I see to be either missing something at the edges, or picking up something that I shouldnt be. My results have blue triangles cutting through the black, which arent present in the tutorial that Im using. So Im pretty sure they should be there. :D So now Im wondering if there's some shortcut that will highlight the bottom most edge? Currently Im using the shift click method Ive tried to enlarge the troubled areas so that I can better see them while I work as well. In the mean time, Ill just keep trying while I hope for an easier way.

The blue is just the texture ignore that
If you click one edge and click the edge opposite while holding ctrl, blender will try and select the ones in between. If it doesn't try ctrl v too remove doubles to join any floating verts first
Hope that makes sense Im watching game of thrones on the tv at the same time :D

Ah ty ty. How do I go about selecting the cap on my model so that I can fix the uv map? (tried goggling how to select cap in blender, but I think my wording my be wrong.) Ahhhh Figured it out Face Select, and dont forgot to make sure that I was in Edit mode.

Well, this didn't end the way I wanted it too BUT Im still putting it into the win column. Why? Well....it IS shorter (rofl) Back to the drawing board!

you have to edit the texture and its alpha channel well.

I did indeed move on to edit the texture file. Which led to me needing to edit the shadows for my mesh. I found MisterS' tutorial for editing shadows here. Edit ShadowsThis has led to a few more questions on my part. I cant seem to get the blank rles file to import properly. Studio doesnt seem to recognize them. (Im using Draw.net) Additionally there are things that I am noticing in game about the mesh that Ive altered. Im not sure what Ive done to cause this, but Ill be reworking my way through the steps in the morning.( I think that I took too much off when I was editing the nude mesh before joining them together maybe?) Ive a weird body gap here. And the legs between the skirt and legs there's an odd gap. Did I try to shorten the skirt to much?

The gap means that you cut the legs you imported too much, you have to leave at least one row of vertices inside the skirt to avoid this. Also, the skin is occupying part of the texture of the skirt, meaning that you have to either edit the texture further up or/and move the uv skirt up too.

Okay I will redo everything up to the shadow edit to prepare for tomorrows adventures in meshing. Thank you so much for the much needed feedback!

Okay So while trying to set my project up for tomorrows adventures in meshing. I managed to not have some of the gaps that my last attempt had. But I still have a flesh colored bit of mesh long the bottom of my skirt. Try as I might to retexture it I cant. I endup with either a flesh strip at the skirt bottom (or is thet a shadow issue?) Or a white stripe at top of legs. Also Im not noticing the little triangles cutting into the skirt edge. Also Im unclear on how to move the uv skirt as was suggested to see if that fixes the issue. Still Its a win! I am getting closer!!!

If you share the .blend and .package i can explain you better what's going on.

As you can see in the picture, the last row from the skirt uv overlaps a bit of the second row of the legs that is what's visible to the eye. You have to move the last row of the skirt on the uv a bit up so it passes above that row. You can see this live by removing the second material (in picture, select it and press the minus button) and then go to back to the uv viewport, click Image from the menu in the bottom and "replace image" with your updated image. Also i'm noticing that you have extra geometry on the second group, if you right click the group on object mode, press g and move your cursor you're going to see that you have extra geometry at the bottom that belongs to the other two groups. You have to cut the mesh up to the poing the group 3 starts.
