The website you use to create the bump map shows a bump map of an upload, but downloads a black image only. Tutorial no longer of value.

jtravers88 It was working last week. Have you tried more than once with different images to make sure it isn't just the one file it doesn't like?

I am just wondering if bump map can be added to accessories. I would try to add but don't understand what size of texture should be used for accessories since they are placed on a tiny piece of map.

First, thanks a lot for this tutorial. I use Gimp and this tutorial helped me to create my very first bump map, but I would like to add some little things. I'm using Gimp 2.8 and I didn't have the normalmap menu. For those like me, know that it's a plug-in you can download from the Gimp plug-in registry : bump map plug-in. It's only some files you have to copy, not a big deal. It works perfectly well and if you follow the tutorial given on this forum, you will have a perfect bump map for your object. Also, I would like to add something else. Now that with the latest version of Sim4Studio you can export the different files of a recolor (specular, diffuse, normal, etc) very easily, do it before replacing them. I had the surprised to discover while creating a new swimsuit, that the bump map had not the same size of the diffuse texture. While the diffuse texture is 1024x2048, the bump map is 1024x1024. This causes a very strange preview in game 'til I figured out what was the problem. So my advice when you do recolors, extract and check the texture files before doing your own. Anyway, thanks again for the tutorial. It was a great help for me.

I'm using gimp-2.8 to create "normal" files. Since I did not understand how to make a "normal" file from 1024x1024 (the problem is the correct positioning of the image on the file "diffused" at 1024x2048), I'm following the tutorial procedure for gimp-2.8. So I take the "diffused" file (.dds 1024x2048), import in gimp, erase Alfa channel, select Filter> Map> Normalmap, select Layer> Transparency> add Alpha Channel, etc. (all like tutorials). What happens? With the "normal" file from 1024x2048 in some cases everything ok, in others the "bump" is badly positioned. Thank you for the commitment of all. Thank you Sim4Studio! edit 05152017 After several attempts, I realized I had to use the 1024x1024 resolution, and I found this solution: 1 I grab a 1024x1024 EA "normal" file that comes close to what I want to accomplish 2 I place my "normal" 1024x2048 file inside the EA file 3 I look for the best placement 4 verifies in CAS 5 repeat 3 and 4 until I get a satisfactory result edit 05172017 You can see the result at link

I think your guide missed a step. After i copied the red layer to alpha and the green layer to red+blue i get this: and it does not look greyish at all.

thank you so much for this <3
One question, should I make the final normal map semi-transparent as the ones in the game? Or should I just use it with full opacity.
Thanks <3
