thank you so much for this <3 One question, should I make the final normal map semi-transparent as the ones in the game? Or should I just use it with full opacity. Thanks <3 I know this thread is from long ago, but I have the same question. If so, how transparent should the layer be on Paint.net? On a scale of 1-255?

Normal maps don't have transparency. At least none of the ones I have ever worked with have and none of the ones I have ever created myself have. What editing program are you using because I've only ever used photoshop?

katarinamartian , this happens when you save normal map in .png, or in my case it also happened with older version of photoshop. Alpha channel was not saved. Read my response here.

When you save as .dds from drop down menu choose file format intel.dds. gametechdev.github.io/Intel-Texture-Works-Plugin/

I'm afraid these tutorials are only appropriate for Photoshop, so this is only a rough guide, helps a little. I use Corel PSPx8 using the Nvidia DDS plugin and NormalMapFilter, and then the adjustment in Channel Mixer set to Mono and adjust the Red Green & Blue to get the right elevations and lightness for the bumps to look OK. However, I do have problems as there is a displacement texture join on CAS pants (trousers) between the knee and ankle and cant find a way to rectify this? Also to say, I have tried the 'Normal Map Online' and in my view is not very good, I get much better clearer results with Nvidia NormalMapFilter. Please, I am grateful for the Tutorial from MisterS but maybe a more defined tutorial would be much better. An example, he does mention the resolution size difference of the DDS Norm, but not what to do about it? Looking at examples you need to crop downwards to a square DDS 1024x1024. He does mention to save in BC3/DXT5 and generate mipmaps, but what does BC3 mean? Also, is there any other changes in the Nvidia save settings, or the Nvidia NormalMapFilter settings to change? It is the Normal which is causing texture to show a misaligned join between the knee and the ankle on all pants. Wish I could sort this out, please.

Does anybody know how to add normal map to CC based on leggings (tights)?? There is an empty slot for normal map but the texture doesn't show up in the game if I add it there. Is it possible to create tights-based CC with working normal map?

katarinamartian it should be BC3 compression. When you choose it you will see a description below that it's the same as DXT5 compression, this is what we need.

I really wanna cry. I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I've save the normal with the config you told me, but it still doesn't works. I've transform my texture to Normal at site. After that, I put the image at 50% to have a square and I've created an alpha channel and copy red one from there, then copy green channel to red and blue. I've saved at "Intel whatever" with the config you told me and it's this! It's still dark gray! The Sim skin still shine.

Feyona I've just done your tip from other doubt and works!! I don't know what I was doing wrong, but I've opened my final file, create a alpha again and paste the green channel and the shine gone!! I didn't saw much difference at texture, but maybe it's from this outfit. I'll try at others. I really love you!! Thank u very much.♥ <3 :-*

basically where you deleted texture, delete bump as well. (Remember to do the alpha layer too) Can somebody expand on how to do this in GIMP? I can paint gray over the texture on the 3 color layers just fine. Bit I don't know how to remove the unwanted texture from the alpha layer. I tried erasing, but the removes the semi transparent grey on that layer and those parts I erased are white when I import back into S4S. If I try painting gray, a solid gray colors over the semi transparent and when that one is imported back those painted areas a re darker gray than the rest. I don't get how to remove that texture from the alpha layer and still have it be the same gray as the rest of the background in S4S.
