Hey lovely people, I'm having issues with a new mesh I made. It all seems to work fine until my sim moves their arms and then... The horror!! My first guess was that this is a weight issue. I looked at the weights, and they did look a little funky in the elbow/forearm area... But when I tried to re-transfer them, using a different reference mesh, using an older blender, using subdivide surface, the issue always remained. What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. File is HEREThank you guys!!

Hello neuralsupply, This is because you don't any vertices near the elbow area hence it simply cannot bend. In general the vertices repartition of the arms is quite bad: not enough vertices and not properly spread around. The chest has the same problem but is less vesible as there is way less movement amplitude in this area. When you apply weights to a mesh they are applied to the vertices, not the edges or faces. Therefore having too little vertices makes for poor angles when moving the joints.

Hey! Thank you for the tip! While I understand what you are saying, I can't seem to find a solution to the problem still. I tried to do subdivision surface to get more vertices but that didn't help. I tried decimating the mesh differently, too, but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions for how to address this issue?

In this case I would cut edges in needed places with knife tool.
