Hi! I'm trying to recolor a shirt that someone else made, but I wanted to make a new texture in an effort to make it maxis-match. When I go to bake, it's all pretty normal... until suddenly it starts turning black where the mesh is. I've included a video of what happens, hope it works! tinypic.com/r/34iiqna/9Here is the Blender file: simfil.es/254065/This is how the file is when I first open it, so it's unchanged, except for any steps I go through to bake. I open the mesh, select all in edit mode and in the UV area, create a new image, isolate the selected mesh in Object mode (which usually works fine), then Bake (with Ambient Occlusion). Am I doing something wrong, or am I missing something? *Note: I haven't tried making CC in about a year or so, so it's entirely possible that I'm forgetting something/just really rusty Also, this is my first time trying to recolor someone else's mesh instead of creating my own. Thank you so much for your time!

hi! i took a look at the blend... and unfortunately i don't think there's much you can do. At first, i thought it was rendering the the mesh both ways.. but no, there's actually a whole another sweater under the sweater you're looking at. Which is.. very very unnecessary and a good way of increasing the polygons of that mesh by creating extra geometry. Both sides, outside and inside are mapped on the same space that's why the inner is overlapping the other. The only thing that you can do is deleting manually all the insides.. which is..something that is going to take you some time. I tried to pick up things and see which would be the best way.. but.. yeah. It's a shame, because it's a nice mesh. Maybe someone else has a better suggestion.

Huh! That's odd. Not sure if I want to go through all the trouble since it was just a personal project, so I think I'll make something else, lol :P Thank you so much for your help!

Yeah, not sure why or how they did that haha. It was a surprise for me too XD.

Select the whole mesh and extrude, slightly resize inward and invert normals. This is done so that you can see the inside of the mesh when looking around. This is especially useful for loose clothes with ample sleeves collars and so on with the full body visible under the clothes. The problem is obviously the increased number of vertices but the "in game" rendering is really better. That would not be necessary if it was possible to map both sides of the normals on clothes. inabadromance FYI

I fixed the issue for you (by deleting all the inside parts manually lol) but then I've caused another issue, this is how far I got - Basically, the main top part is fine, but the sleeves have some realllyy weird grainy noise pixel-y things and I don't know how to fix them :( I guess in photoshop you could you blur it out but I think it would still look weird. Anyway, here's the .blend - simfileshare.net/download/254446/ (note- i applied a subsurf modifier to smooth out the bake result, you can remove it if you want) If you do finish this (which I hope you do :P), you should release it. I think many people myself included would love a maxis-match/non-weird-looking version.

Okay, I managed to stop the bake half way through (before the weird noise appears) and I got an almost-clean bake of the top. i.imgur.com/TkaSSMp.pngBecause I was bored, I then put it in the photoshop and tried to make it look better, and it came out looking okay! The texture I made is not perfect but it's definitely usable. If you want to use mine, you can get it here, though, you may need to fix some areas and touch up the texture etc etc. Otherwise, if you want you can start from that bake above (the non-edited one) and do it yourself, you can do that instead of using my edited texture

Sorry, I just saw this!
I didn't know that about working on these kinds of meshes, Zelrish. Good to know. & jwofles, it's awesome that you took the time to work on that (and it looks awesome too)! :D Thank you all so much for your help and insight! I think I might revisit this project after all.
