Hi guys,
it's been bothering me for a while. Since I installed windows 10 (a whiiiile ago already) I cannot create bump maps anymore.
The nvidia plugging for photoshop crashes my Photoshop everytime I try to use it.
windows 10 + photoshop CC + nvidia DDS plugging = crash How do you guys do it? I'd really like to be able again to create those maps as they add quite a lot of "depth" to the clothes.
Also I know photoshop CC is not in the compatibility list for the plugging (which I don't understand why...) it worked on windows 7. I gave up on this issue already but was wondering if any of you had a fix maybe for this.
PS : open and save DDS files is strangely not an issue.. just the filter to create bump maps..

Don't know what others do, but Gimp can export files to DDS.

Don't know what others do, but Gimp can export files to DDS. Well the issue is not with manipulating DDS files but with the use of the nvidia 3D filter that allows you to create bump maps I will try your tool Feyona thanks

This program works well - www.crazybump.com/I think the free version may be limited though, I haven't used it recently.

Zelrish just wanted to share what I've googled. It seems that officially Nvidia DDS plugin is compatible only up to CS6 version, and incompatible with CC and x64 bit version. I found this method that worked for some people. I won't try it since I installed Nvidia plugin for CS2 version. The latest one didn't want to work with my CC at all. I am quoting this message here, and providing link to the source of information. Also, have you tried Filters -> 3D -> Create Normal Map filter? It crashes on my PC, but may be will work on yours.

Thanks Feyona Tried it but it didn't solve it. Some people imply that the issue is due to the fact that there is already a normal map and bump map filter now native in Photoshop CC. The problem is that it cannot interpret the alpha map at all.So I can create normal maps but I don't think I can use then considering how the alpha looks.Gotta try the filter with a .png maybe it works better.EDIT : Well it actually works, it's just that the channels are ordered differently, but I have the correct layers for the different channels, just have to rearrange them. Didn't test IG yet tho, and I probably need to work out on the settings cause there is too much light on some angles but it should work out.

Zelrish turned out I was wrong and I did have the latest version of nvidia plugin. I tried this method, and it didn't work out as well. From what I gathered, nvidia plugin doesn't work due to the reason that NVIDIA_CubeMapShuffler and Nvidia_mipster are in .js format, when CC reads .jsx (all scripts for CC is in .jsx). I don't know if it's the reason. P.s. Lucky you, native plugins crash my CC, so I have to use a website that I gave you the link to.

Feyona it is still odd that the native normal map plugging crashes on your PC. Did you try updating to the latest version of CC? Although I say this but I only use 2015.5 I didn't update to 2017 yet as It works properly. Maybe you could try a simple uninstall-reinstall of CC on your computer. I would recommend maybe cleaning your computer after the uninstall with the Creative Cloud cleaner tool I use it often at work and it helped fix issues that made no sense with different programs from the CC suite.

Zelrish upgrading could help, but I am simply lazy in this case. I am ok with using online tool.
