Hi so I'm new to recolouring and have watched a few videos on how to do it, whenever I export a texture I can only do it as a PNG and when I try to type it in as a dds it changes it to PNG. So I go and put it into photoshop and play my specific action and is able to save that as a dds. but when I go to import the new colour into sims 4 studio it makes my whole sim that colour? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using S4S on both mac and windows and for mac I simply add .dds at the end of the files' name when exporting and that does it.

So I did that and it worked and the new hair colour shows up in sims 4 studio well but when I go to cas in sims 4 the hair is only showing the texture of the hair and not the full hair on the sim?

Hard to tell without the package or some screenshots. Did you edit the alpha texture appropriately?

I don't know how to send the screenshot I took but the hair comes up as just the texture in cas, I exported visible and there is just patches of hair on the sim.
I checked and it says I have alpha channels on and on alpha 1 does that mean anything?

hi! You have to change the file type before naming and saving the texture. it doesn't matter if you add the suffix or not, just change the type. You can upload your screenshots on imgur.com then copy the direct link of the pictures and use the add image tool above the text box to add them or use the sharing link the page gives you. If you're still having issues with it, please share the package file and the texture you're using. You can read on how to share those two things here.

thanks for the tip on sharing packages and screenshots, when I go to export the texture on my Mac it doesn't come up with an option to change the file type?

It's because This option doesn't exist on the mac version. You need to do it the way I described it. Add .dds at the end of the name and you get a dds file. Don't and you get a png.

does sims 4 studio have a tutorial on editing alpha texture properly as it comes up as alpha 1 so I just leave it?

Is the same hair you're recoloring the one from the picture you shared? The hair isn't alpha, but it requires an alpha channel so that the texture doesn't cover the rest of the body. If it does have an alpha layer then you're working with dds not with png. Then you should save it as that: dds dxt5 with alpha.

that is the same his from the link above. When I open in photoshop and play my action it doesn't have an Alpha layer how would I correct that as when I save it, it goes in as dxt5. when I try to save the new hair action though it won't let me allow alpha channels?

Then your action must have a step for flattening all layers that is probably getting read of the alpha.
You can manually copy the alpha texture from the original and manually adding a new alpha layer and paste it there.

it says I have an alpha channel yet no alpha layer which is really annoying as it does the same thing as before when tested in cas does it have something to do with with what filter mipmap it is?
