Hi, I'm trying to create an override for the Swamp Flower Light in Willowcreek. I've imported my mesh, replaced the LODs, tested the textures in game. Everything works alright so far, except for.... The light source(s). The original Swamp Flower Light has 1 single light source. My model, however, has 3. I followed this tutorial sims4studio.com/thread/4803/make-new-lamp-lights-correctly and vertex painted my mesh, and amended the 'Lights' in the Warehouse tab. But, no luck, the light source is still where it's not supposed to be. Could someone help my helpless self out, please? Thank you in advance FM Images - imgur.com/a/XP6uEdg Packaged File - 1drv.ms/u/s!Aiud_PdAXso1mwteDO7aDkAy_TTX?e=PaItu9

Hi there. Your links just take me right back to your original post. Can you post a download link for your package file and a URL for an image hosting service such as imgur? You'll have some trouble getting help otherwise.

Here they are again, just incase: Images - imgur.com/a/XP6uEdg Packaged File - 1drv.ms/u/s!Aiud_PdAXso1mwteDO7aDkAy_TTX?e=PaItu9

I'm not able to answer your question as I've only ever made two lamps and both had a single light source. But, I will do some research and see what I can find. I have a couple of ideas but want to do more reading. Give me a day or so, okay?

Sure thing, thank you for your help! From what I think I gathered yesterday - as this is an environmental light/street light, and the 'light' warehouse resource is listed as ambient, and there is an 'empty' mesh_0 with a single vertex listed in blender I have the feeling that the 'empty' mesh might be that independent lightsource. Which seems a bit strange though...
Still have to test it Completely wrong, forget what I said.😅

Currently, I'm looking at lights done by other creators. If I get really stumped, I might ask DOT over at The Sims Resource. Still researching. Don't worry. We'll figure this out!

Quick update. Will post more later but for now...it's been one of those days. I was looking at some of the outdoor lamps from the game and I put them indoors so I could see how they reflect when up against a surface. Honestly, it looks to me like there is just one light source with a wide radius in the center of the lamps. Even the custom lights I downloaded look this way. I have a couple of screenshots to show you, but for now, if you want to see for yourself put one of the hanging lanterns--like the Lanterns and Post from City Living if you have it--up close up against a wall and you'll see what I mean. I think the placement of your light source is fine, it just needs to be fiddled with a bit. You can give it a different color and expand the radius--possibly, you'll want to export another light source from something that gives off a softer light that's more diffuse, if that makes sense. The tutorials Feyona linked are excellent and chock full of info. Edit: Here are a couple of screenshots that illustrates what I'm trying to explain.

I too have had problems with lights recently. I have a lamp that refuses to light no matter what tut I follow or what lamp I use to clone it. I have also noticed that using uv paint doesn't always work (like in OMs tut for making a light show properly). I'm not sure if its Blender or the game, it is hit an miss for me. A while back I looked at a tree I changed with lights, I noticed that one of the lights wasn't in line but try as I might the blender coordinates and the game ones would not match, the tree still has its errant light, but not through lack of trying on my part. I also found that the light sources are often just a single point making it hard to make realistic strings. Not a lot of help I know but I wanted you to know you are not alone.

The tree is an old upload that is not seasons compatible, it works but doesn't shed leaves (thankfully) so I think I will leave it as it is for now. The lamp I feel is something I should know how to do If I work it out myself I won't make the same mistake again. I am sure it's because I want to make the shade glass, but even using the base game lamp with a glass shade it still doesn't show the light source, it just has a sort of random glow around and above the lamp making it look as if its not lit. I can live with it in my game but I am sure it would cause complaints if I uploaded it this way. I will admit it has put me off making lights for a long time. I hope your project is working out. I was thinking could you not use the mesh from the swamp flower light and add it to a lamp with 3 light sources instead of attempting to add extra lights to the original object?

I was thinking could you not use the mesh from the swamp flower light and add it to a lamp with 3 light sources instead of attempting to add extra lights to the original object? Because I have terrible manners I'm gonna jump in and do a little thread-hijacking. I don't think freeasabird there are any EA lights that have more than one light source. I haven't tested every light, obviously--maybe there's a suitable light in a stuff pack that I don't own--but I'm 99% sure every single light in the game has just one light source. It looks to me as if EA has just taken the one single light source of each lamp or light or whathaveyou and edited the source itself--made it bigger or smaller or brighter or dimmer or more diffuse (spread out), etc, etc. Even the skating and ice rinks have just one light source right smack in the middle of the rink. The light source in this case appears to be one source with a large radius so it looks as if every lamp is emitting light when they aren't. And Orangemittens stated here (about the 6th post down) that doubling the light sources just made the light brighter but didn't make it appear as if there is more than one distinct light source: sims4studio.com/thread/1451/light-source-solved As for your lightsource within glass question, I'm guessing you want it to have a lightbulb with a glowing bulb like a real lamp? I looked at some lights in the game and it does look like there are similar lights. I've no idea if this helps or not, but I would try maybe cloning one of the lamps in the image and/or messing with the light source--change the location, color, intensity. That kind of thing. The page I linked above has some discussion about importing a light source from something different from what you cloned, if that helps. Anyway, I hope you get this figured out. It's so frustrating when you want to do something and can't work it out. I was wondering about how to make an OMSP for 2 years before it finally clicked. UGH!
