This doesn't seem to work when creating counters or objects based on counters. The game will generate thumbnails for each sectional piece but when you open the object in s4studio it only brings in the main thumbnail that you see when first opening the catalogue. None of the sectional previews are pulled in which I could really do with on my current project as the game isn't generating the thumbnails correctly so I need to manually override them.
ETA: This appears to only be an issue with modular items i.e. counters if they are cloned with a 64bit instance. They need to use a 32bit instance instead to work correctly.

For some reason, the thumbnail is only showing up for some of the swatches. I did everything righ, actually probably did TOO much as I also placed every single item with each swatch in game before exiting. What am I doing wrong??? Also, some of the items I have made previously randomly now arent showing all their thumbnails. I dont have any mods that affect the catalog or anything like that. I have the newest version of s4s, downloaded yesterday just to see if that was the issue.
Also, if I want to change my thumbnail overlay image, what are the steps for that? What I did was open the item in s4s, clicked each swatch, then clicked clear on each thumbnail image. Do I then do the steps from 2 again?
Thanks again for all your help.
I have all of the pack purchased through origin. No sketchy cracked versions lol. I have tried it with just the broken items and no other CC in my folder and it still does it.

I have been trying to organize all of my downloaded custom content not content that I've made myself. This is so that all of my content looks neat, and the catalog overall just looks less clutter and messy. I also like to know who created it, and what set (if any) the item belongs to so that if I don't like it after all, it's easy enough to delete. I followed this tutorial with some wall downloads I had. Exported the texture, imported the texture back, S4S generated a thumbnail for the wall texture perfectly. I'd export the thumbnail, just so I could see the size to make the overlay. Each wall thumbnail S4S measured about 512x512. So I made an overlay to fit that (512x512), did the Modding > Custom Catalog Thumbnail Overlay and the overlay is perfect. I test it out in game, and it's crisp, clear, looks great. So then I move on to floors. According to the OP, the floors should generate automatically by following the same method I did with the walls: export texture, import texture, thumbnail generated, input overlay. However, when I do this, a thumbnail does not generate for the floors. I've tried several different floor files all from different creators. Nothing. So my next thought was that the floor textures (when I exported them) showed 512x512 so I'll just import those into the thumbnail slot manually, then do the overlay and all should be good. Wrong. When I do it this way, the thumbnail(and overlay) becomes super blurry in S4S and even worse in game. I've begun to notice this happens any time I manually put in a thumbnail, whether it's the thumbnail and overlay or just the thumbnail period. It's happened with some door files I troubleshooted with as well. I've tried messing with the sizing of the floor thumbnails before manually importing them as well as the overlay itself (tried 116x116 since it looks like that might be the "official" thumbnail size). Nothing seemed to help the blur, and in the cases of the smaller sizes, the blur just got worse. In the case of the doors, if the game could generate the thumbnails, then I do the overlay, it all looks good. But say the game generated a wonky thumbnail (as it did with some the custom content doors I had downloaded) so I had to go in to fix it manually with a different thumbnail image, then do the overlay and it looks super blurry. I've searched this to death at this point. Have seen a few things that may be similar to what I'm dealing with (mainly that S4S isn't recognizing that there's a thumbnail there and it's thinking I'm putting an overlay over nothing, not sure if I understood that thread correctly. sims4studio.com/thread/6517/quick-question-regarding-thumbnails-s4studio ). But I haven't really seen a clear cut solution on the fix whether that's 1) getting S4S to generate thumbnails or 2) fixing the blur on manually added thumbnails. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

For creating object thumbnails, does the object have to be placed directly in the Mods folder, or can it be placed in a sub-folder. For example The Sims 4/Mods/Buy_Mode_Objects ?

I've never had a problem placing the object/CAS item's package in a subfolder. The thumbnail will be generated as long as the item shows up in game and you are able to visualize it there. If you have more than one swatch you need to go and select each one so the preview thumnail is generated.

I tried tonight with leaving it in the subfolders, looked at every swatch in game, exited from the game, opened up the package, but alas, no thumbnails :(. *Update* It seems I just needed to set where my TS4 documents where.

orangemittens has your team considered doing a thumbnail underlay? I love the overlay option, but I actually prefer to do background underlays that go behind the object. I currently have to export all the thumbnails, then edit in photoshop to add a background, then reimport for each thumbnail. Adding an underlay option would be so so wonderful! Here's an example of what my thumbnails look like:

Does the CAS size of 104x148 px apply to eyebrow thumbnails as well? I noticed in game that they are a slightly different size and wasn't sure if they required a different sized image.

i can get catalog image to work fine for objects. haven't tried walls, floors, or clothing. however, with hairs it will have the catalog image only for the first coloring. the second and third colorings don't have catalog images. i have done the same steps for the hair as i have done for the objects and they come out fine.
please tell me what i am missing.
