Well, here I am, back from my hiatus and thinking about making some things for Sims 4. I feel like I have been out of the game too long and have a lot of catching up to do. This seems like a good place to start. If I do succeed in getting this creative ball rolling, I will be restructuring SimFreaks.com and moving the old Sims 1 Stuff into a sub-site. I just don't know the easiest way to start the ball rolling.
When I first started SimFreaks, all you could do was make walls and floors, so I made a ton of them, but then people started demanding Skins, which Ahn jumped on board with a start as our first skinner. Then the demand for objects, which we could only recolor at the time, which turned into me learning how to model in 3D.
In the past few years, I have been working with Patrick J Barrett III making games for XBox and Mobile apps, some of you may remember him as the lead designer for Sims 2 as well as the designer for Hot Date and Vacation for Sims 1. He left EA after Sims 2 and we have been working together ever since. I have also been in a relationship with "SimSlice" for over 3 years and find it quite ironic how The Sims brought so many people into my life, some of which I am still in contact.
And that is what brought me here today. Someone posted a picture of some new skins on one of their pages and I just had to see what was going on...suddenly feeling the bug to make things again.

Hi Heather, it's great to meet you. I remember your site fondly and I really look forward to what you create for Sims 4. The easiest way to start the ball rolling is jumping on in. We have a lot of tutorials here and if you run into questions don't hesitate to post...the tool and the tutorials are fully supported. The Sims has brought a lot of great people into my life as well...and I'm always happy to meet new people. The community here is great and I hope you'll feel welcome

Thank you. I am already looking through tutorials and just trying to figure out what the heck I am doing! I haven't even installed any mods, so I have a lot to learn. Perhaps you can tell me, can you create sub-folders to keep things organized when you install them in the game? I made a few floors that I am trying them out, but they aren't showing up. Pretty sure it's because I created sub-folders...

Welcome to the Looney Bin, simsfreak! I would suggest starting with something REALLY HARD! Like one of those Debug Waterfalls....(Because I can't figure the dam° things out.) We need more Pet Rocks - this Game does not have , like ANY PET ROCKS!!!

Haha. Well, I do sort of feel like I am rolling a ball uphill.
I made some wallpaper, floors and now I am working on converting an object over from my Sims 2 stuff. I had some difficulty with blender not exporting one of my files properly, so moved on to a more simple decorative item to start. However, I am not all too familiar with blender and am now stuck trying to figure out how to reduce polys. If you have a tutorial on it, let me know...otherwise, I'm hitting google.

Reducing Polys by Decimation - very Tricky because you can only do it a tad, there are other ways on YouTube and more complicated by the way....up to you. I normally don't do it all or just a tad. The Shadow Lods can be Decimated a lot more - it depends on what you're working with too.

My problems with Joining 2 Object Meshes into 1, Blender will always keep the Mapping from 1 Object Mesh and Ignore the Other you are Joining. I normally set up my Custom Map first - Map the more complex object and Join, (Highlighting the more Complex mesh in Blender...select the other and Join.). This leaves the less complex mesh blank - i/e: You have to unwrap and re-map. As you can see, my Rock above was non Complex mesh - Hence, it was unwrapped again and re-mapped.
You can clearly see, my Mapping skills are not very good....hehehe. Normally, it would involve a Re-color to make it look better and then the recolor would be imported to S4S.
°Just explaining my - "Method of Madness".

Yes, only do it by a tad - I decimate by shaving the mesh down gradually by .98 five times in a row to make the medium LOD, then repeat another 5 times for the low LOD (unless the mesh starts to crack up, then Ctrl-Z once to roll back!). Don't do one big decimation all in one go or you'll have a mesh that looks like Shredded Wheat!

Haha, that crash test dummy with a rock. But where is the round rock and why is the hill so small? Wait, is he rolling a marble up this tiny hill? I can't quite zoom in... :P That's cheating!
Too bad we can't even make hills in Sims4. Or at least ponds. So few options for landscaping these days...
As for Blender, you don't really need to use it, if you know another 3D program. You just need to import your stuff into Blender at some point to add S4S data.
