So I want to make a mod that places a group of koi recolors. Currently my koi garden is decorated with the 8th go fishing sign to put fish into the pools.
I want to make 5 (or more if possible) recolors and replace all other fish in the school with recolors of koi, based on actual koi varieties like Koromo, bekko, and tancho, as seen below. I would like them to be able to be fished so sims can put them in fish tanks.
So far I've figured out how to replace the koi itself in the swarm, but I don't know how to duplicate it or replace, for example, tilapia with a tancho koi.
I'd happily do the art, but I've never modded anything before and figuring out how to get a group of koi proved to be beyond me.
Can you help me?
How many koi can/should I make?

Just find the other fishes and override them, like you are doing now. Extract the koi meshes, alter it if need be, select override for the tilapia, import all of your meshes and textures for the koi, save and done.

Trying To do that! I used the warehouse batch import and export. Thought it was going well. Tilapia looks like a koi in Studio, but looks like a tilapia in game. I am continuing to try though.
My goal was to hopefully get a mod that created new fish rather than erasing tilapia from the world. But I suppose progress requires sacrifice.

Easiest method would be to override is all, making new fish spawns is a lot more work. xD Hmmm, are you talking about the fish tank they look like tilapia still? That might actually be the VFX, though I'm surprised it's not using the same texture.

i was able to get the koi skin on the tilapia mesh by manually replacing the tilapia skin pngs in the warehouse. but even manually replacing the LODs didn't work. and for some reason there were 5 koi LODs and 3 tilapia. cant seem to figure it out.
In the fish tank and in the water. I could change the koi colors but not the tilapia.

I don't know if it helps, but you could create as many "New Fish" as you like for catching in ponds. I created several. However, as previously stated, swimming and mounting are separate meshes and ids. But if you are going to all the trouble anyway, it might be nice to not replace the originals.

Basically create your fish object, insert the object tuning, overwrite the EA snippet for a location (example : fishingData_Spot_GD_Common_01) insert your fish name and id into the snippet, and that's it. You can take a look a what I did in my studio.
