Hello! I'm trying to learn how to make bump and specular maps, preferably using the latest version of GIMP, however most tutorials seem to be quite old and therefore do not reference the latest versions of GIMP or S4S. This makes it tricky to figure out what I'm actually supposed to click on, as names have changed. I've also found contradictions between tutorials. These two, for instance, are contradictory in their steps as to which decomposed layers are copied to where. sims4studio.com/thread/861/normal-maps-bump-editing-creatingsims4studio.com/thread/22601/bump-map-editing-gimpI tried turning this image into a normal but the end result looks wrong. Grayscaled diffuse: Run through Normal Map Website: After following tutorial: Can someone please explain what I'm supposed to do? Or share a written tutorial that will work? I have a lot of normal maps that need fixing and I can't do that until I know how.

Hi. The red channel goes into alpha/transparency mask, the green channel goes into rgb It seems like something is wrong in this regard in your case

When you run a image through Normal Map Online the PNG will have a transparent background. You'll need to create a layer and fill it with #8080ff, then merge the layers. Then do what Mauvemorn said to do (and do it in that order, too). Not sure if any of the tutorials you looked at mention that step or not.

Hi. The red channel goes into alpha/transparency mask, the green channel goes into rgb It seems like something is wrong in this regard in your case Thanks for confirming which order was correct! I don't think that step was in either, but that may have been why my original attempts weren't working. Thanks!
