Oh thank you orangemittens! But how can I include the original mesh? Can I do this with Sims 4 Studio?

I read in another post that there is no tool "to create an object recolor that doesn't include the mesh right now". But I was wondering how (for example) un bichobolita could create a recolor of a garment that works in game although I don't have the original mesh in my game mods folder?

If you want to include the mesh for a CAS item you need to choose Create 3D Mesh instead of recolor. The .package Studio makes for you will then contain the mesh as well as the images. The steps needed to recolor it are exactly the same...you would not need to do anything differently at all. However, I would double check that the original creator allows sharing of their mesh before doing this. If they don't you can create your recolor and simply give the people downloading it a link to the original item so they could download that also.
Object.packages are different from CAS.packages in that EA has included the images needed to create the recolor inside the model resource. This means that it is not possible to create a recolor.package without including the model resource and the model resource also contains the meshes. CAS meshes are contained in the GEOM resource while the CAS images needed for recoloring are in the CASP resource. This means that you can include just the CASP for a recolor.package and that .package will not have meshes in it.

I seem to be having a similar problem where, in creating a recolor of a custom content hair, it looks fine within Sims 4 Studio but magically disappears within the actual game. I have the original package file in my game (as I do want to use the other colors), but it's just not coming up. I used to tweak colors and even hair lengths easily back in the day of Sims 2, but this new stuff has me all kinds of confused. I wonder if it's my DDS file not saving correctly? I have PhotoShop 7 (yes, old, but faithful) and I installed the DDS plug-in, but when I open an exported texture from Sims 4 Studio, it is never transparent like I know it should be. So, I downloaded DDS Converter to make them PNGs and can THEN save them back to DDS. I'm starting to wonder if this is where I'm going wrong? I'm not entirely sure. It's just strange that the recolor appears in Sims 4 Studio but is completely gone within my game. Any advice/help would be so greatly appreciated Thank you in advance!

If your recolor itself isn't showing up in the game the most common cause of that is that you don't have the recolor.package in your Sims 4 mods folder. Having it in the Studio mods folder alone will not make it show up in the game.

I put it in my Sims 4 mods folder as well... As I said, it's there but invisible. The thumbnail shows up as a bald guy with extra shadow on his head and the same happens when you click the thumbnail. I'm sorry if my original post wasn't clear with the "disappearing" comment. I know how to install mods and I DID copy my recolor to my Sims 4 mods folder.

If you post the two .packages I can take a look at them.

Thank you. Like I said, I think it might be my DDS files not saving correctly. I just don't have access to or am familiar with any other program that can open/edit DDS files. I'm a graphic artist, but I work in Paint Tool SAI (along with my old reliable PhotoShop 7 for finishing touches). Here are the two package files- Original file (This was a female to male I converted and works fine) My recolorAny help would be appreciated. I'd LOVE to try and make the hair a bit shorter as well, but if I can't even do a recolor, there's really no hope of me shortening it as well :P

I tried your recolor in my game and, as you say only a bald head showed up. I recolored the hair myself and it showed up just fine. I then imported my recolor image into your recolor.package and in the game my recolor shows up and yours still does not: So this is definitely a problem with how you created the image. Paint.net is able to open, edit, and save .dds images with no extra plugins required for it to so and it is a free program. It is what I made that recolor with. If you don't have access to Photoshop or a similar higher end 2d editor I would recommend it for straightforward editing like this kind of recolor.

Thank you. I figured that's what it was. I will try Paint.net for my simple recolors, then. Thanks so much for your help!

This is such a basic question but I need help. What is the best way to recolor a pattern with a solid color, keeping the texture but not the pattern?

I'm not positive I'm understanding what you mean...could you explain a little more?

What I am meaning is for example a dress has a flower pattern on it but I want to make it a solid color and keep the way the fabric lays showing through. The way I have been doing it does not always work...
