Thank you, orangemittens! I didn't know about the cheat console, that would be exactly why I wasn't able to find it! :D Woohoo!

Introduction
This tutorial will show you how to create a standalone recolor of a custom content mesh that will not overwrite the original item in the game. The same method can be used for objects but you select object recolor instead of CAS recolor.
Can this be done with Clothes yet?

yanii20, a CAS recolor of custom content made by Sims 4 Studio does not include the mesh. If you put a recolor made by Studio into the game and you don't have the original .package you were recoloring in your mods folder then the game will have no mesh to display the recolor on and the area where the mesh should be will instead be invisible. I don't think it's possible to make a stand alone recolor or a create 3D mesh of a custom content with a new mesh, right? because so far...I have not done that yet. It's always by " My project". When I try to clone a custom content cloth, even if i copy it to the studio4 mods it doesn't show up in the CAS area of Studio4 and the only way I can open it up is through "My project". But when I do that, anything I make becomes a "recolor" that merges with the original custom content cloth (it does not become a stand alone) . ....that without the original mesh it doesn't show up. But there was this one custom content I downloaded which is a new mesh and was allowed by the creator to be recolored and uploaded (to TSR only) , it has provision for adding swatches. So what I did was clone it (as my project as usual, because it wouldn't appear in Studio4 by any other way) added swatches and deleted the original swatch. It did become a stand alone recolor even when the original custom content is also in my Sims4 mods folder and even after I deleted the original custom content in my Sims4 mods folder, the stand alone recolor I made still works. I am so confused as to how this thing really works.

If you use My Projects to add swatches to something it will not be a unique stand-alone item. If you rename the .package you will see both .packages in your mods folder. What will happen in the game is a different story. Because of how the game is designed it will allow you to have both of those .packages in your mods folder but it will only be able to actually display one of them at a time. This will cause the game to sometimes show your recolor and sometimes show the original. Which one the game chooses to show at any given time is random. What you need to do is put the original .package in your Studio mods folder and clone it as custom content. If it is a CAS item, once it is in your mods folder, you need to select standalone recolor as usual. You will get to the thumbnail list. If the item was made using Sims 4 Studio you can type the creator's name into the search bar to find anything made by that person that you have in your Studio mods folder. Click on the thumbnail as usual and proceed to make your recolor as always. If you have a piece of custom content that you cannot clone in this way please post it or a link to it so I can take a look at it to see what the issue is.

So therefore both the F long dress mesh fix (made for me by briujah) and the new Batik long dress packages are in my sims 4 mods folder. Exactly what I did for the TSR dress. I checked it out in Sims4 CAS but none of them shows up. In catalog the thumbnail is blank and when i click it, nothing happens (like it's empty). So I exited Sims 4 and removed the original F long dress leaving just the Batik long dress recolors. In sims 4 CAS the thumbnail is still blank but it now appeared with a huge red x on it, still empty when you click on the thumbnail. I exited Sims 4 again, removed the package and went to studio 4. I opened (My project) the original F long dress (made for me by brujah) and added the batik long dress textures again. This time I did not delete the texture of the F long. So now the package has the F long texture mesh fix and the batik recolors. Then I renamed the package to F and Batik and copied it back to Sims4 mods folder. The same empty blank thumbnail with a huge red x on it. But the original F long dress mesh fix (without added swatches) shows up and can be worn. Once again I removed the F and Batik package from Sims 4 mods folder and replaced it with the original F-long dress (mesh made for me by brujah . I shows up normally as usual. Please see why I could not seem to recolor or clone this package? F long dress_meshfix.package (844.63 KB) By the way....this mesh made by for me by brujah was from the mesh of EA DressMaxi_PatternCream....but he edited it...so I am assuming it's a New Mesh now, right? or am I wrong?

maya, to make a brand new standalone recolor you need to internally renumber the .package. The game doesn't look at the .package name to see who is who...it looks at the number inside the .package. Opening a .package using the My Projects button will not internally renumber it. To internally renumber a custom .package you need to put the original .package into your Studio mods folder and then clone it as custom content.

Even if they are already in the mods folder of Studio4 and in Sims 4 mods folder, they don't appear in the CAS of Studio4 if I choose "create 3dmesh" or "create stand alone recolor"...that is my problem with cloning custom content cloths....how to solve this? for example this mesh made (edited by brujah) : F long dress_meshfix.package (844.63 KB) This is what happens when I choose to "create stand alone recolor" or create 3dmesh" for F long dress_meshfix.package But with the particular dress which I downloaded from TSR to recolor, It appears in Studio4 CAS (sometimes), and I was able to create a stand alone recolor of it. Please help me, I really want to recolor the F long dress_meshfix.package with my Batik Textures

It's easy to find if you search by creator name. In the case of your garment just type in your name.

I'm pretty sure I followed the tutorial step for step, but I must be doing something wrong. None of my recolors will show up in my game. Any helpful tips please? I tried cloning the mesh but I'm not totally sure I did it right.

texascowgirl, did you put the original .package that you cloned for your recolor in your Sims 4 mods folder as well as the Studio folder? If the original .package isn't in the Sims 4 mods folder your recolor won't work unless it's an object recolor.
