Recolor packages do not have a footprint resource. This makes them dependent on the original to show in the game (it is by design). The problem is the image is the wrong size. The game only recognizes images that are sized in a power of two (see pic below). If the image is the wrong size, the game cannot find it and provides the question mark image instead (a default image the game uses when it cannot find the correct one):

Thanks for helping me out. The wooden texture works fine but the marble still shows as pink, kinda confusing since I made both exactly the same way o_O

Hi, orangemittens, I currently need help for my fireplace recolor, since in the sims 4 studio the texture of the recolor is as I want it, but in the game it's a fireplace with a big question mark on it and it's multicolour, which isn't what I intended to have for a fireplace (btw. it's a base game fireplace). the images are from: and Thanks, ACreations

Hi everyone!
Newbie here. I'm trying to recolour a CC wall and have followed OM's instructions on the first page... copy the .package file from my Sims 4/Mods folder over to my Sims 4 Studio/Mods folder, but none of the CC that I've copied to the S4S mods folder is showing up in my list of choices? I've clicked on "standalone recolor" under "build" (because I'm trying to recolor a wall), and then click "next", then with the dropdown menu choices (type, game pack, content) I've tried all the options (all, game, custom). But still can't get the CC .package files to show up at all? There's not even the S4S icon showing.
I've tested the CC wall in game and it works fine. I've checked and double checked to make sure I copied the .package file into my S4S mods folder (under My Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods). But still no luck trying to find it in S4S so I can recolor it. Is there somewhere else I need to copy custom content .package files to in order to get them to show up in the Sims 4 Studio?
Am I doing something wrong?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
FYI - I'm using the latest version 3.1.2.2
Other than not being able to recolour any custom content, I'm having a blast with this program recolouring Sims 4 original game content! I had no idea what I was missing out on all these years... making all my own recolours to match my decorating choices. Love this program!
Edit to add: It's not just this one particular CC wall that isn't showing up in Sims 4 Studio, it's any and all custom content that doesn't show. I've tested by copying other CC .package files over to the S4S mods folder and none of those files show up in the listings either when I go to recolor something. So it seems I can't see any custom content in S4S.... even though, technically, I am able to see all of my CC in Sims 4 Studio under the "My CC" function in the program, but of course you can't do anything with those files under that function other than deleting or saving the CC (which by the way, is a great little handy dandy function since you can't delete custom content in-game, so this is a great way to look through your CC and delete what you don't want without having to memorize the name of the file and manually deleting it from your mods folder!).

Oh for crying out loud.... forget my post above. I just figured out how to get my custom content to show up in Sims 4 Studio.
If you add any new .package files to the S4S mods folder, you then need to exit the program (if you have it open), and re-open the program for the new .package files to show up.
*slaps self on forehead*
I don't know why I didn't think of trying that first before bothering you guys here in this forum with my silly problem!
Sorry for the inconvenience!
:D

Question here. I'm working on my first recolor of a custom content item. I'm a bit confused though. I got my recolor to work the package shows up in the game. However if I take out the original package file of the item I recolored, and leave my recolor file in the game I can still see the item. Don't I have to have the original file in game for my recolor to show up? I'm trying to understand how this is just a recolor when it seems like my file includes the original mesh.

Hello, new to modding. I'm editing this post because I got my recolor to work in the game, but I still have one question:
In step 5, a "project" folder is mentioned. What is that referring to?

@ Virelai I think it refers to having multiple folders to organise you recolours, like have a folder for recoloured hair separate from all the other recolours, which I should be doing myself, organisation, have a folder for CC hair, then have another folder for CC objects and so on within the mods folder.

Hi, orangemittens! Thank you for making this tutorial. I've read over it a ton and watched a tutorial for recoloring with Paint.NET on YouTube. I followed the steps and created a recolor of Chicklet's Black Velevet Living Chair, but when I try to start my game with it in my Sims 4 mods folder it gives me an error message: Unable to start Cannot start because game data is missing or damaged... I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. I've tried everything I can think of to fix my package, but it still gives me the error message. Please help!
