Hi, Thanks for the tutorial. I am a complete noob at this, so I probably should've started making simple poses and not an actual animation. But this is just really fun, and I have been wanting to replace the feminine walk animation since I got the game. I have a few problems, however. First of all, there are 6 total animations that make up the feminine walkstyle. 3 versions of the right side in small, medium and large; and 3 versions of the left side in small, medium and large also. I have no idea what that means and what differentiates them, so I just picked the medium left animation and edited it a bit. It's very rough and crappy, lol, but that's not the point. After I imported the animation back inside the package file, I saved it and placed the file in my mods folder. But when I went into CAS to see if it had done anything, nothing happened. The feminine walkstyle looks intact. I was expecting at least some weird imbalance since I only edited one of the animations, but nothing. Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: How interesting. Apparently the difference is in the distance of the steps. Long being sasquatch walk. The one displayed in CAS seems to be the medium one. I wonder when the other ones are used.

So I started to edit a new version of the animation, because I wanted it to not be as messy this time, and I ran into my first problem.
Frame zero is when the right step begins. On the same right leg, at frame 12/13(same pose), where the animation ends, the leg locks into an opposite position of where the left leg begins at frame zero. This would make sense since it has to loop in unison with the other animation. But the thing is, after editing the right leg animation, I have no idea how to make the left leg start at the same position the right leg starts. I tried selecting the points and copying the rotation values, so I could paste it onto the other leg. But even after having the opposite leg selected, when I paste the values, all it does is move the unselected leg. And the exact position is necessary for the animation to loop nicely.
Any idea? --------------
By the way, I have another question. Is there a way I can grab a joint and pull it around, and have the rest of the skeleton follow accordingly?

It looks like CAS has its own walk animations are you using one of those as your clone?
You would need to rig the model with IK to make it so if you grab a joint the rest of the skeleton will follow.

About the rigging, thanks. I ended up doing it manually (the animation), it looks pretty fine I think! For someone who is not an animator anyways. But then again, all I did was mod an already smooth animation. And that would explain a lot. I chose one of the animations they use in-game apparently. --- I learned how to mirror a pose. I also installed an add-on that did that automatically. However, it seems mirroring an animation is not possible with these animation files, as I get the same results whatever method I use. It just doesn't mirror it properly, and it's really sad. Any tips? Edit: It seems the issue with mirroring is that the sim is standing in between the z-axis, instead of the x-axis. Any way to mirror animation on z-axis? Gosh, so much trouble lol.

When I make an animation, is there a way to make frame 1 gradually turn into frame 8 (for example)? Or do I have to make every single frame to keep it from jumping from one position directly into the next? A "smooth auto-transition" is what I inquire about.
Also, what's up with these hands?? The anim I am using has both hands in a fist for the whole anim, and I can't figure out how to properly un-fist them, so I can have open hands, and better control of what the fingers will do.

You need to put frames between the first position and the second to get a smooth transition. Make your first position at frame 0. Move your timeline forward to about 40 or so and make your next pose. Click the play button.
The hands have joints. You can click on them and move them. That's the way to make them unfisted. Other than that you might try copy/pasting some other hand position from a different clip.

Simply making a position, moving the frame, and making another will give me a smooth transition? That's the first thing I did. Was nothing smooth about it, so I proceeded to make each and every frame.
About hands, do I not want to do the [click node > press R > adjust] method? Just click and move? And how do I copy/past just a hand position/animation to a scene? I only know of the full copy/paste of the whole frame.

Yes...simply making the position, moving the frame, and then making another position will give you a smooth transition. The transition will occur along the shortest path between the two positions however so you have to do the thinking for Blender. If, for example, you want the Sim to move a foot forward and point their toe you would have to pick a point partway between these two positions to set a middle one yourself or else Blender will start the toe point halfway through and the toes will go through the "floor". It certainly doesn't have to be done frame by frame though.
To copy you select the joints you want to copy from one rig and click ctrl + c. Then go to the other rig and click ctrl + v to paste. The rigs both have to be in the same scene for this to work afaik.

Well, I abandoned my old one to make a simpler one. When you are in CAS, using a female, and you give her the Romantic Trait, she has idles she'll perform when selecting it. Well, I chose to do a butt-slap animation. XD
So, I wanted just about everything about the animation it already uses to stay the same, but when she moves her hip out flirtatiously, I just want her to slap her right "cheek" once with her right hand (don't hang up!). I have the perfect ending position for the hand, which just-so-happens to fit flawlessly with frame 40. :p Almost as if your tutorial was based on this animation.

Seems I can't show you a pic. :-/ Just picture a playful cheek slap at the point of contact. For some reason, fingers were far easier to control with this animation. Thank Goodness Gracious himself for that.
So, I didn't make a frame for 0, I just went to 40 and made the ending position. Looked terrible during the anim. So, I made a frame for 0 in a new sequence, then went to 40 and pasted the completed anim pose there, and animated, and it looked 100% the same. It doesn't transition in any way, at least not for this anim, whether I make a frame for 0 then 40, or just stick 40 in there. It just turns into the pose I made all of a sudden at 40, with the rest of the anim playing out as it normally would.
I only need to make about 10 custom frames. The rest of the anim is fine as it is. Will these frames need to be done completely manually? I can't see any other way, no matter how many times I try the same thing. :(
Would love to know how to add a "slap" sound effect in there too, right at 40.

Hello OM, I have a question. Well, maybe a few. 1. My thing when I try to append it, to add another pose, it tells me it's not a library. So, I'm having trouble appending.. 2. Where is the objects folder that was mentioned? I have not figured it out. Any help would be great. Thanks. ♥

Hi tristakins, when you click Append on the menu you should get a large pop up screen that allows you to navigate.
Using that screen you should navigate to a second pose that is in .blend format. Once you select this second pose the screen will change and you should see a list of folders inside the .blend file. One of those folders is named Object. This is the folder you need to click on.
Then select the rig

Hi OM, Thank you so much for that bit. But now, I am sadly stuck again. How do I know the second pose is there? I click on rig001, assuming that would be my second pose, but it just shows my first pose.. Blender is sure a tricky thing to work. Thanks again for help!

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say rig001. Can you take a screenshot of your pose in Blender at the point where you're running into trouble?

I hope you can see it well, I underlined rig and rig001. But that's what happens when I append my two poses. But my second pose, does not show up.. I'm sorry I'm having so much trouble figuring this out. >.<
