I thought this was a weight issue but I don't see it in the blend file. What else could it be? And is the straps showing an alpha thing? How do I fix this? should I delete the wonky half, duplicate flip and attach? simfileshare.net/download/187805/

hi! By looking at the picture and the .blend file i'm assuming you duplicated or used the mirror tool for flipping one side to the other. By doing this, you left the same bones on one side the same as the other. When you change the mesh like that you have to re do the weights. Here's a tutorial. The lines are from the shadow texture, you can find it below the diffuse texture. You have to edit it to match your current mesh/shape, here's a tutorial.

Straps are most likely from shadow map. There is no way to tell for sure without seeing a .package. Regarding "broken hand". It's totally weight problem, both of the hands are assigned to the right side bones, that's why you see this. You need to do a weight transfer from similar mesh. UPD. inabadromance was swift :D

You need the right weights for the right group but you also need the right vertices INSIDE the group. Make sure that the vertices selected for the left arm group are the same as the ones selected for the other arm.

Ok I followed the tut and it's doing the same thing. In weight mode its all blue and the rig is still there...but the crazy arm is still happening.

Did you delete the bones you had before following the weight transfer tutorial?

What version of blender do you use? Currently only 2.76 and 2.70 considered working versions. 2.78 has some bugs when transfer weights.

Yup it's 2.78 Pretty sure I did delete the bones, but I may have done something wrong I can go back and double check

Avoid using 2.78 for weight transfer. Either way, the issue that usually comes from using it isn't what you're having. Both arms are weighted on the right bones. That's what happening. Either way, use the 2.70 version (you can find it on the s4s' download page and install its zipped version). Remember to delete all bones before transfer.

What? The arms are not weighted correctly at all. Right hand has the weight for both hands and left hand has no weight.

Inabadromance said both arms are weighted to the right bones. hir0ki said the right hand has the weight for both hands. Either way you say it, I think you need to correctly weight the mesh. It's weighted all on the right side and needs to be corrected.

I still don't understand how to fix this. I've tried repainting weight, deleting half and mirroring again, (but making sure everything is checked for mirror not just the first two boxes) I've looked at the bones, but I don't understand how to edit them...or how to transfer the weight from right bone to left bone. I did get the shadow to go away, though
