Came out a bit Unshiny for my liking, but the way I removed to pattern would of been too hard to just use the original colors as I would had have to remove it on all them, took me long enough on one. They are on my site for now

You do not need an alpha, alpha is only if it needs transparency, but in your case if you did have one it would have to be completely white. But save its a .png and its fine (well is for me)

If they dont snap onto the default slots in the game its the deco object. Sometimes its the footprint stopping it. Link to one of the objects and we can double check this theory.

Autodesk Maya and 3DS Max - big big $$$$$
Blender - free
Maya is easier to use though it still has a massive learning curve and you still need to know the basics of blender to work with the sims4 anyway. I use 3ds max although I am familiar(ish) with maya. Anybody who uses maya or max has been 3d modeling way before the sims, no on gets either just to mod the sims, If you are new to modeling get blender as you might not even like doing it.
If you cannot grasp blender you will not grasp maya, blender and maya will do the same thing, its just easier and quicker in mayer but its overkill just for the sims.

I dont know the first thing about conversions but why do you need speedtree, its been a while but the last time I ever had anything to do with speedtree was for the use in game engines to populate a forest. Where in the conversion process does it say that ?
