I tried it, but the problem persists.
Note: it's not that the objects aren't translucent, it's that the parts of the mesh that should be fully transparent aren't. Like ... it looks like the "stone" hologram sits on top of a triangle because the parts that should be fully transparent aren't here.
And, although I guess it's not illustrated in my screen cap, the view through the hologram part is blurry a bit. Not just hard to see, but blurry.
edit: Nevermind! I used the wrong file to test.
Okay, so, the see through part is good. You can still kinda see the edges of the "beam of light", but I guess I have to live with that.
edit#2:Finally, FINALLY solved the issue. Ultimately it was that I didn't read the XML correctly, I think.

themechanicalmaniacs.com/temp/futureGrave.pngdrive.google.com/file/d/12rXF6_IihuYV90TeyRVmTFmMx7ZcC-TS/view?usp=sharingHoly poo has this been giving me trouble all day! Even after this I need to see how to take out whatever allows this to be on tables, but first things first. Right now I'm trying to convert the future graves from Sims 3. But progress has been .... frustrating. 1) I want to be able to engrave epitaphs on these objects. But I just can't get it to work. I've went through the custom turning tutorial, but no matter how I work with the XML it just doesn't allow me to engrave or read epitaphs. 2) Also annoyingly, I haven't been able to get the "hologram" or "beam of light" bits to look right. They look alright in Studio, but in the game the stuff behind the objects are blurred. And it isn't fully transparent where I want it to be either (although it IS translucent). Talk about frustrating! It's cloned form the "Whatever the Weather Seasons Award."

I think cloning from a different item did the trick. It was tough finding the right thing. most plants and even a tree didn't want to work (I ultimately went with the Regal Planter). The normals still disappear, but only when you're VERY far away ... I guess I'm fine with that.
I think I'll ditch the blue swatch. I think that may have just been reflected light or something since other screencaps don't have it tinted that color.

Yeah, my save options looks like that.
You can see them because of the light that hits it. All the cracks and such aren't a part of the mesh, those are the normals working. When you zoom out you can see they disappear, which is how I know something is up with the normals.
The first link has a picture of what I mean. Up close you see those cracks. further away they just disappear.

themechanicalmaniacs.com/temp/sims2stone2.pngYeah, that's not quite the look from Sims2. But, still, the normal really helped. And it solved a problem with some other CC I thought I finished too! Although it's somewhat embarrassing since I uploaded it and all.

I think I'll do that. I could also make it a different swatch - options, right?
I think this is also what caused my Sims Medieval Reaper conversion to look off. When I scrolled away it looked faceted and broken. After a quick test it looks like that's because I did the normals all wrong. >_<;. I guess this means ALL those conversions are done wrong, although the problem was most evident for that item. Well, I guess this is all a learning process.
Thanks so much! I'll post the revised item in this thread a little later.

Okay, I think I get what's going on.
Sims2 isn't just using that texture as a bump map. They're also inverting and overlaying it onto the texture (which I did manually in Photoshop to achieve a similar effect after running it through that normal creating site). When not done this way the normal effect is very subtle and not at all what's seen in Sims2.
It was good to run through all this with you. I think it led me to where I needed to be, thanks.
