I am attempting to accomplish both transparency and a glow effect in the same object, but so far, have only manage to produce either one or the other effect (see test object image below). The base model is square and the phongalpha does seem to work correctly to cut out the circle with clean, antialiased edges, while retaining the glow effect. However, if transparency is applied (the star remains opaque), it has consistently resulted in the alpha cutout no longer being applied, though the star does glow. I have perused various forum threads here that pertain to the topic, but I have not been able to determine the cause of this behavior. Is this combination of glow and transparency simply impossible in this context, or am I missing some crucial attribute?

Are you sure the left object is using Phong Alpha? It looks like Phong.
As far as I know, Phong Alpha doesn't support lightmaps. Instead, you need to use vertex colors.

To be honest, I really don't know. I've been working from what I found in this post, and this one. That I managed to get anything working is perhaps more a miracle than a feat of comprehension of the method.
