okra, I'm sorry I missed your post when you posted it. If you rename a .package and then open it using My Projects the item has not been internally renumbered. This means that as far as the game is concerned it is the same .package as the original was even if you go on to swap its images for ones of your own. If you put this .package into the Mods folder along with the original one the game is presented with two things that it perceives as identical. It cannot show you both of them at once and will pick one to display. Which one it picks is random. For this reason Studio has a recolor feature which allows you to make a renumbered clone of the original item. Because it is renumbered it is unique and the game will be able to display your recolor and the original both at the same time. Merry927, Studio's recolor feature creates a .package that will not function properly without the original item in the Mods folder with it. This is true for object recolors and for CAS recolors. If you are creating a recolor of your own item and you don't want the original required for it to be used then you should use the Create 3D Mesh button instead of the recolor button. If you are using the create 3D mesh button you need to be sure you're cloning something that was not made using the recolor button.

lesimmerlad, it sounds like perhaps you forgot to save your image with the mip maps box checked. Try saving the image as a 32 bit .png instead and that should fix the problem

I wonder if this tutorial works for me too. I have a custom facemask that has no specular on it so that I can make eyes without the silly reflection. My question is now: Can I use this tutorial to clone the facemask to make another set of eyes with it so that it won't override my old stuff? Or do I don't even need to worry and just start a new project with the same old file.

You should be able to use this tutorial to clone your own custom facemask.

I chose "Create CAS Standalone" at the beginning, but my recolours are just like other colour options of the original dress in the game. What did I do wrong? Is it because when I selected the package to recolour I selected all? I mean all the colours listed.
Thank you very much for the tutorial btw, it was really helpful! ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
EDIT: I figured it out! Or is there an easier option? I deleted all the original swatches, and added my new ones only.

So per your instructions I tried to do this to set-up an accessory cas package file as a different category type. The problem is, the drop-down 'Outfit Type:' doesn't exist on the newly created one.

Hi outfoxy, the dropdown menu for Outfit Type will only appear if you select Create 3D Mesh under the CAS button. CAS recolors don't contain a mesh and in order to successfully change an item from one outfit type to another you need to remap the mesh.

Is it possible to recolor an object from a creator? I've tried this method, but nothing showed up.

Hi SimmaFierce, in order to clone custom content for recoloring you need to put the .package into your Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods folder. Studio needs to be closed when you do that. Once you've put the .package into your Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods folder open Studio and select which type of recolor you want to make (object or CAS). Find your item in the thumbnail list and select it. Click the Next button and save. Studio will open the item in the model viewer and you can begin importing your recolor images.
