Hi! I am writing because I am trying to follow your tutorials and I think one thing would really help is if before just going into all of the many steps if you have a big picture overview. You do really well explaining the actual steps to complete the tasks, but I don't understand why you are doing it. For example you talk about having the right cut numbers. Why are you trying to match them? Why is that important? Is there somewhere else where you explain these basic high level ideas?

For a general overview, you may want to look at the documentation " Components of an EA object" that I wrote. There is overview information on cut numbers in the first tutorial I wrote showing how to get a new object into the game using an EA clone. That is HERE. Basically, most objects, like the painting object used in this tutorial, have meshes with multiple groups (shadow group, painting group). Studio reads the cut number to determine which mesh group in your .blend should be used to replace each of those mesh groups in the package when you import the blend into the package. So, if you number your main mesh group with the cut number of the shadow group, Studio will attempt to replace EA's shadow group with your object mesh group. This will be a problem because the EA shadow group uses a different shader than the object group. This is briefly touched on in the documentation thread and explained a bit more in the tutorial on shadows I wrote that is linked from the documentation thread.

What about meshes inside of meshes, like a hand in a glass jar? Would I have to make two objects?

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love how comprehensive it is, since this is my first time using blender. I do have an issue I'd like your input on. So everything looked perfect until I tested my object in game, and saw that the frame texture was still showing up a bit on each side of my mesh, making it look bumpy. imgur.com/FRzzP5G here is what it looks like for clarification. I'm thinking maybe I didn't make it thick enough to begin with? Well, I could start over and cement the knowledge I've learned but I thought I might turn this into a way of learning something new. Is there a way I can smooth out the front face of the mesh to be a flat plane without starting over? I didn't want to bother you about it, but I don't know enough of the jargon surrounding blender to try to look this up on my own.

OK..this will make me sound like a dweeb, but would I be able to use this tutorial if I wanted to make my own paintings? I'm slightly familiar with Blender but VERY slightly familiar with it.. Any and all help is accepted!

Hi axcolleen, left clicking in Blender makes the 3D cursor move to the point on your screen where your mouse cursor is. The 3D cursor can be helpful for a lot of things but it also can be a little annoying when you aren't used to it. To get it back to the center point click the space bar on your computer keyboard. This will bring up a searchable menu of all Blender's functions. Type the word cursor in to get a menu specific to the 3D cursor. Choose Snap Cursor to Center and it will return to the origin point in the 3D view (the place where the x, y, and z lines all meet). Which instruction are you on when you find it saying to left click? I occasionally mess up right and left when writing tutorials...if that's the case here I'd like to fix it. <3 thanx for your patiently answer

Hi
Although this is quite old I thought I would comment anyway. I have looked at so many how to videos for creating CC for the Sims4, and albeit I have created a couple before, they were literally do this etc with no explanation behind them or they were just recolouring an existing SIMS4 mesh, which is quite straight forward. So, if you tried to do something on your own you did not know why you were doing what you thought you should be doing if that makes sense.
This is the first time I have followed one from start to finish (with quite a lot of re-starts!) and was able to complete and know why each step was being done. So, many thanks for taking, what I would think was quite a bit of time, to share your knowledge with the newbies in creating CC for the Sims4.

So I can't export to Blender, I have the newest version and S4S wants an older version. Any way around this?

Download the 2.76 version of Blender (the "no install" version - should be a zip file, extract to a folder, run it from the EXE File). You can have more than one version of Blender on your computer.
If you put the 2.76 folder in Program Files (or anywhere else, really - it doesn't matter too much where you put the "no install" version) and then tell S4S to use this folder, it should use this version when exporting meshes.
You can still use the newest version of Blender when making meshes and such.

There is another version of this tutorial that does not involve using blender, the person gave a custom file for creating new pictures with no frame (hope I'm not being confusing). I created some pictures using that tutorial with success and I want to repeat that method. Can anybody point me in the right direction? It's not the one by bakiegaming
Thanks
