Is there a way to adjust images' links in the tutorial? It's a bit difficult to understand without them :(

Unfortunately, no one has access to UN's images except him and real life has kept him out of the community for the past several months. I have rewritten the first part of the tutorial with illustrations. Let me know if you have questions

orangemittens Thank you! Also for this one! I was confused about EA's speculars with green in them but now it's all clear. Thank you again :D

Would somebody mind updating the first post to fix the missing images for the Photoshop section of the tutorial, please? I came to check up what I was doing as the latest outfit I am trying to create is making the skin shiny and the clothing matt but I have the black and white on the mask image the correct way around.

Hi menaceman44 ! Have you reduced the size of the specular and the mask? It should be half of the size of the texture one.

I finally corrected whatever was going wrong. The mask was saving with a white background instead of a black one and I hadn't noticed. Took a lot of fiddling to get it to actually retain the black though for some odd reason. It is solved now though.

What do I do if the item doesn't have a specular map to begin with? The item I'm trying to add shine to is placed really strangely on the diffuse map as it is, but it literally is nowhere on the specular map.

just export the diffuse map and turn the darkness all the way down. then you can adjust the transparency, color, etc.

this is how you do it the .png way. you take the brightness all the way down so it's literally just black. then you can change the opacity. idk what else to tell you because that's literally how you do it.

I read somewhere on here I believe, that it is not a good idea to use use the “make blank” feature for CAS items, as it can end up causing your item to take on the shine of another. Does this mean that if you do not want a CAS item to shine, but you do not want it to conflict with other CAS items with shine, you should always have a specular mask (the black & white image) but leave the overlay blank?
I apologize if what I said does not make any sense lol.

adamular yes, you need to put the white image with the .mask black to avoid the specular of other items show up on yours.
